HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - IUPUI senior women's golf standout Aneta Abrahamova has been named 2018 Horizon League Player of the Year by the league coaches, as announced at the pre-tournament banquet on Saturday night (Apr. 20). She was joined on the First Team All-League by freshman teammate Amelie Svejda as well.
Abrahamova becomes IUPUI's first-ever league player of the year in women's golf.
The senior from Slovakia was brilliant throughout the season, ranking No. 132 nationally by GolfStat - more than 400 spots ahead of the No. 2 player in the league. Her 73.38 scoring average was almost three shots better than her closest league competition and is on pace to obliterate the school's single-season record.
Abrahamova has finished among the top-10 in eight of her nine tournament entries, including a pair of wins. She's tied for the program's all-time lead with five career tournament wins and owns a 76.26 career scoring average. Individually, she's beaten 95 percent of her foes this season, having finished among the top two in five tournaments.
She's coming off a 1-under 143 (72-71) at the Kansas City Intercollegiate and has eight rounds of par or better on the year. The award marks her third career all-league berth.
Svedja made an immediate impact on the Jaguars' program as a freshman, logging a 78.26 scoring average in 19 rounds. She defeated 67 percent of her opponents and collected a top-10 finish at the 90-player Dayton Fall Invitational with a 7-over 147 (76-71).
She had a pair of rounds of 1-over golf during the year and was IUPUI's No. 2 finisher in four different tournaments.
